About Miss Akimoto

 About Miss Akimoto:

I was born in Thousand Oaks, CA.  When I was thirteen, my family, my dad, mom and little sister, Ellen, moved to Chico, CA.  I fell in love with Chico so after high school I attended Butte College and then transfered three years later to CSU, Chico where I got my Bachelor's degree.  I then continued on at CSU, Chico and enrolled in the Rural Teacher Residency program to get my Master's in Education, my multiple-subject teaching credential and my single-subject credential in English.

I have known that I wanted to be a teacher since I was in Kindergarten.  It has been an ambition and passion of mine for most of my life.  My philosophy on teaching is that learning occurs when students see value in what they are being taught.  If the students do not see this value, whether it be personal development, real world situations, or tools that they will need in life, they will not be motivated to learn it.  The students need to be engaged in what they are learning.  I prefer to teach using a multitude of methods so that students of all learning styles can benefit and understand the content in the way that works best for them.  I teach using listening, seeing, doing, and lots of hands-on-projects.

I can't wait to get to know all of you.  I know we will have a fantastic year together!
